This year’s ACC Focus is organized around the concept of Equilibrium, which denotes a state where the populations and the species of an ecosystem are in balance, to explore the emerging issues of climate change and the environment. The goal of the exhibition is to include the actions of individuals that stand at the boundary between humans and the environment, seeking to recall the memories and histories related to the environment and the struggles of innumerable species that together make up the balance of Equilibrium.
In particular, the exhibition seeks to include the works of Asian artists who chronicle the memories of individuals regarding the issue of the environment and the history of societies connected to them.
Equilibrium eschews the campaign approach, where an exhibition emphasizes the seriousness of climate change and environmental devastation with the intent of mobilizing popular support. Instead, it seeks to provide an examination of society’s political and historical space, with the individual’s experience and memory within the context of that society serving as the starting point. Through this, the exhibition seeks to form the bridges that connect the artists and the audience through an individual approach, connecting the experiences of the artists with similar experiences shared or known by the audience.
The exhibition also seeks to present a lateral arrangement of artists that show similar methods of approach, which will allow the viewers to compare and examine their work in relation to others. Through this process, this exhibition seeks to identify the common ground shared between different states and use that common ground to shape the peaceful coexistence and solidarity between Asian states.
