The Braunschweig University of Art is seeking candidates for the Institute of Fine Arts W2 Professorship FINE ARTS/Art in Dialogue. Theory and Practice in Contemporary Art.
The successful candidate will be appointed on a civil servant basis, possibly also on an employment basis. The position is limited to a 5-year period. We are seeking candidates who are distinguished by exceptional curatorial experience in exhibitions as well as their research in 20th century and contemporary art.
Duties include
–Teaching the courses Fine Arts, Postgraduate Studies Master Students and Art Teaching foundation classes (total of 13 teaching units of which 4 are academic and 9 curatorial / artistic)
–Incorporation of students’ art in teaching in the form of a critical examination of students’ artistic work through regular studio visits which accompanies the studio work
–A critical reflection of the artists’ self-image
–Teaching of contemporary developments in art in the context of art history-related and theoretical associations and practice-orientated questions in contemporary art
–Development and participation in curatorial and academic research projects in contemporary art
–Regular cooperation in diploma examinations, juries and selection committees
–Pledge to become actively involved in the university’s organs and committees and a commitment to the university’s further development
Requirements
–University degree
–A PhD or equivalent
–Additional academic achievements (habilitation or equivalent)
–Minimum 5 years’ experience in curatorial practice and exhibitions
–Evidence of teaching/educational suitability through practical experience
–German language skills B2 level by the time of starting the position
All candidates should possess the necessary social, management, gender equality and diversity promotion expertise and be prepared to be involved, in particular, in academic self-government and committee work. A high degree of communication willingness is expected as well as the ability to act integratively across various universities. Further requirements can be found in § 25 of the Lower Saxon Higher Education Act of 15.06.2017.
