To keep in touch with its habitual visitors and to expand its public during the shutdown imposed by the containment measures due to Covid-19, the MAMbo – Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna offers 2 minuti di MAMbo / 2 minutes of MAMbo: a format of digital engagement and the production of new video contents shot using basic technology, such as a smartphone, complemented by the hashtag #smartMAMbo.

Until Sunday, April 5, every day, from Tuesday to Sunday as symbolically the museum’s opening days, at 3pm a new contribution is published on the YouTube MAMbo Channel (2 Minuti di MAMbo Playlist), and then re-launched on the museum’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter social platforms.

In a consecutive rotation a 2–3 minutes clips—just the time of a song—focus on four thematic areas: the temporary exhibition AGAINandAGAINandAGAINand, which investigates the theme of loop, of repetition and cyclicity in the contemporaneity through the works of seven among the best known contemporary artists (Ed Atkins, Luca Francesconi, Apostolos Georgiou, Ragnar Kjartansson, Susan Philipsz, Cally Spooner, Apichatpong Weerasethakul), MAMbo’s permanent collection, the Museo Morandi and MAMbo’s Educational Department, an excellence in the field of mediation and art education which appeals to different types of public that, on this occasion has set a new approach to the artworks.

In this way a unique story has begun, articulated in different appointments, each assigned to a different voice—curators, artists whose works are displayed in the permanent collection or temporary exhibition, cultural mediators but not only. For this the Web is being used as an alternative space of expression—to the physical one of the museum—to present in a matter of minutes insights, comments and curiosities on the cultural offer temporarily suspended. To expand the possibilities of knowledge, the videos are often backed up by the publication of additional materials and documents.

Among the artists that have already intervened with their voices: Ed Atkins, Apostolos Georgiou, Ragnar Kjartansson, Luca Francesconi, Cesare Pietroiusti, Alberto Tadiello, Daniela Comani, Claudia Losi, Diego Tonus plus a rare record of Giorgio Morandi. Many others will intervene, among them Cally Spooner and Catherine Wagner. Thanks to the great and generous response to the initiative, 2 minuti di MAMbo / 2 minutes of MAMbo could run even after April 5.

Through this initiative, simply produced and easily accessible, MAMbo reinforces its mission to spread contemporary culture in the digital dimension joining the #iorestoacasa (#Istayhome) campaign that came about spontaneously on the web to contrast the diffusion of the virus by restricting social relations.
