Invited to the exhibition The Unanswered Question. İskele 2 are artists, performers and musicians from different generations and geopolitical spaces, who work on and with social intersections and create links and connections to the lived concepts of an exemplary global citizenship within the cultural field. Turkey is the starting point of the investigation, but the show is looking much further, to the regions formerly belonging to the periphery, which during the last 20 years have experienced a boost of modernization and internationalization. The exhibition and performance program try to explore the materiality of the interstices, the transit, and to open a space, which brings about a new perspective of the relationship between audience—work—space. The project, together with the artists, aims at temporarily creating a space in which cultural representation and attribution are not at the forefront.

Publications
Within the n.b.k. book series “Discourse,” a publication in German and Turkish languages will be published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König, Cologne, with an introduction by Marius Babias, René Block, and Sophie Goltz, an essay by Boris Buden and short texts about all participating artists. The exhibition is accompanied by a TANAS booklet in German and English with artists’ materials and interviews.

n.b.k. Showroom
Alejandro Cesarco (b. 1975 in Montevideo / Uruguay, lives and works in New York) is one of the best-known post-conceptual artists of his generation. The focus of the exhibition at n.b.k. Showroom is his new video Musings (2013), co-produced by Contour Mechelen vzw, Belgium and n.b.k. The video retells a series of anecdotes regarding premonitions, fate, dreams, and other types of messages that are the generative source for creative work. Compiled are stories by or relating to, amongst others, Susan Sontag, Ingmar Bergman, Maurice Blanchot, Italo Calvino, Julio Cortázar, and Agnes Varda. The selected stories also have in common that the resulting creative works (art, literature, or film) have very much to do with death and mortality. Musings proposes to triangulate the ideas of inspiration, influence and inheritance. The exhibition is curated by Sophie Goltz.
