August 28–November 4, 2024
310 Inner Campus Drive B7500
78712-1009 Austin TX
The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture’s fall 2024 lecture series builds on the school’s ongoing exploration of issues vital to the study and practice of architecture, design, and the built environment.
Starting August 28 and continuing throughout the semester, lecturers representing a broad cross-section of cultural practices—including artists, architects, philosophers, preservationists, landscape architects, and interior designers—will present talks that interrogate a range of contemporary topics, from the impacts of climate change and socio-political realities to the inherent potential of materials, and beyond.
This semester’s speakers include Jesse Reiser of Reiser + Umemoto; Kristina Hill of UC Berkeley; the artist and designer Olalekan Jeyifous; Jesus Vassallo of Rice Architecture; Amber Wiley of the University of Pennsylvania; Manuel DeLanda and Sanford Kwinter in conversation; and Odile Decq of Studio Odile Decq.
In addition to the lecture series, The Black Home as Public Art exhibition, organized by Associate Professor Charles L. Davis II, will be on display in the school’s Mebane Gallery throughout the semester (August 26–November 15). The exhibition will be completed by a one-and-a-half-day symposium (September 11–12) examining creative notions of the Black home in the United States.
All events are free and open to the public and will occur in person at 5pm in the Goldsmith Lecture Hall (310 Inner Campus Drive, Room 3.120) unless noted otherwise. Most lectures will be recorded and will be available on the School of Architecture’s YouTube channel.
