The Department of Art at Vanderbilt University invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of the Practice in Design, to begin August 16, 2024. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and expertise in current practices in the field of design, which may include graphic design, motion graphics, UX/UI, industrial and product design, architecture, and/or emerging technologies. Within the changing nature of higher education, the Department of Art at Vanderbilt is invested in rethinking the role of art and design in contemporary society. The position will chart new territories, foster experimentation and innovation, and cross fields and disciplines. The ideal candidate will be familiar with contemporary art discourse, show potential for exceptional research, excellence in teaching, and have an active creative practice. We are seeking candidates to teach both beginning and advanced undergraduate courses in the field of design. Applicants must have earned the MFA or PhD by August 1, 2024.

We will ask for letters of recommendation electronically via Interfolio in the next phase of the search process. Candidates may discuss equity, diversity, and inclusion in their artist and teaching statements, as applicable.  

Portfolios of creative and student work must also be submitted as follows: (PDF, max size 20MB each). Portfolios for creative and student work should be uploaded either entirely in PDF form, or via embedded URLs in a PDF. This may include video links and sound files with clearly marked viewing times and conditions if applicable. For each work/page please include description, name, title, media, date, duration, size and links (when applicable).
