What if we realized there are many different ways of being, acting, making and doing? That society is plural, made up of many entities and countless different realities, none of which is ultimately more real than all the others? That claiming the ultimate reality is impossible. How can we use art to open up to all these forms of perceiving and building the world?
The world turns increasingly pluriverse. As global citizens today, we find ourselves in a multitude. It requires a fundamental new form of mutual engagement. The group exhibition Fitting In invites us to take another lens for understanding the world, averse to thinking in unnecessarily stereotyped dualities. The selected artists and designers understand identities as multi-layered and fluid and offer alternative scenarios on how to live together. They reject the idea of a prevailing standard identity you either belong or not.
Fitting In focuses on restoring relationships with ourselves, each other and the world through the objects surrounding us every day. The exhibition thereby aims at creating awareness of our own frames of reference, and pointing at how rich and colorful the world can be, if we are open to the many voices around us, and the many overlapping layers in our identity. Fitting In is therefore a call to become aware of all these layers, and to start using them in individually reconnecting with our context. The works on show touch upon the boundaries between fashion, design, contemporary art, photography and the world.
