Z33 is the House for Contemporary Art, Design and Architecture in the historical center of Hasselt. Its programs explore the world through the lenses of art, design, and architecture. Z33 creates exhibitions, research projects, and publications by and with artists; and acts as curator and research partner for institutions within and outside the arts field.
The projects are always the result of a long-term and deepening research and lead to an extensive program of artistic activities. Z33 aims to question the norm, encourage curiosity, and provide a new frame of reference, but also seeks to provide knowledge, skills and tools to its public so as to set things in motion. Z33 has a particular focus on talent development as well as on projects that stimulate new connections between artists, designers, researchers, scientists and (urban) residents. Z33 regularly acts as curator and partner for organisations and research and educational institutions within and outside the arts field.
In November 2019, Z33 will open a completely renovated exhibition wing and a new exhibition wing designed by the Italian architect Francesca Torzo. The design completes the beguinage site where, in the coming years, the Master programmes and an international research institute of the Architecture faculty of Hasselt University will also move in, creating a very interesting dynamic at the site around Z33.
