The beginning of modernism runs parallel with the demand made to see the world once again through the eyes of a child, and above all to represent it with the unspoilt vision of a child. Numerous artists have received vital inspiration and important impetus from children’s creative appropriation of the world. Conversely, what does a world that artists have created for their children look like?
The exhibition Snail Shell and Rhinestone shows for the first time the books, pictures and games that Günter Brus designed for his daughter Diana, taking these works as a starting point for a tour through his romantic, enchanted creations. Puns and picture puzzles, children’s books and parables, fantasy figures and curious architectures can be found in an interactive show that is both art presentation and adventure world. While conceived for children, the illustrations and themes are ageless, nonetheless.
