Kunsthal Mechelen is a generous, open house for contemporary art. Operating without a central location, the Kunsthal’s programme will unfold across various spaces throughout the city, including public space.
As a multi-faceted art house, Kunsthal Mechelen offers haven to a myriad of voices and faces. Rotating formations of artists, curators, thinkers and collectives bring the house to life in a program that refuses to be confined to a singular artistic. In consultation with an advisory committee, orientations are redefined, welcoming both new and familiar voices—young and experienced, local and international, more and less established. Fair compensation, care and support are provided for all contributors.
Kunsthal Mechelen is open, agile, mixed. The program stands for flexibility, depth, and a departure from fixed formats, challenging established patterns of expectation. It is polyamorous and unpredictable: it moves and transforms to the cadence of a changing society and art field. The institution seeks to show art that questions, researches, and imagines the world in all of its complexity. It wants to bring compelling, innovative—yet also critical—perspectives on life and society, engaging in dialogue with the city and its inhabitants.
Kunsthal Mechelen aspires to be a hospitable meeting space with an eye on local development. All are invited at Kunsthal Mechelen. We encourage dialogue, reflection, and critique. Kunsthal Mechelen likes hearing from you, and would love to engage in conversation.
