Nowy Teatr was officially founded as a municipal artistic institution in 2008 by the mayor of Warsaw, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz. Its newly appointed artistic director Krzysztof Warlikowski teamed up with director Karolina Ochab to create a new and daring place on the cultural map of the city. They started building an ensemble consisting of long-term collaborators and co-creators of Warlikowski’s theatre, for all of whom Nowy Teatr became a perfect artistic asylum.
