Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil

The Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil (MACG) besides being one of the many museums in Mexico City that shelters one of the most important collection of modern Mexican art, is also a place for exhibit the new investigations and experimentations of young artists around the country, as well as recognized national and international artists. 

Dated back at 1974, Dr. Alvar Carrillo Gil and his wife, Carmen Tejero de Carrillo Gil, donated their important art collection to the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA). One particular piece, “La Chole” by José Clemente Orozco, bought in 1938, iniciated this pediatrician into a long and passionated career as a collector in the 20th century Mexican art. His collection includes art works from the Mexican Painting School, as well as some of the international artistic avant-gardes. Some highlight pieces are the ones from José Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Diego Rivera, Gunther Gerzo, Wolfgang Paalen and Luis Nishizawa, among others; a set of 270 Japanese prints dated between the 17th and 20th century and a notable core of prints and posters of european modern artists.
