Dumbo Arts Center

Dumbo (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is an area of Brooklyn extending south along the East River toward the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge. Since the 1990s the area has coalesced into a home for both established and emerging artists as well as arts-related businesses. Dumbo has numerous landmarked buildings, cobblestone streets and stunning views of Manhattan from its riverfront park.

Dumbo Arts Center (DAC) was established as a means of preserving the identity of Dumbo as a vital artists’ community. DAC’s mission is to catalyze interaction between visual artists, the local community and the wider public, in order to preserve the neighborhood of Dumbo as a springboard for new art.

DAC promotes the work of emerging artists by way of five or six group exhibitions every year. DAC also commissions site-specific art and provides educational programs for artists and high school students.
