Founded in 2000, Ddm warehouse served as an independent hub for contemporary artistic creation, with a mandate focused on promoting emerging artists whose work explores marginal and peripheral perspectives through diverse creative expressions. The space encouraged site-specific works and fostered collaborations with independent curators dedicated to expanding the artistic landscape in Shanghai.
In 2007, Ddm warehouse organized Migration Addicts at the 52nd International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. This project explored how migration reshapes issues related to human identity, gender, and spiritual needs. The rapid expansion of urban spaces, modeled after major cities, has sparked new social conflicts within societal structures. While focused on Shanghai, the project addressed themes relevant to other rapidly growing cities in both Asia and the West. The exhibition’s structure involved a series of interventions throughout the public spaces of Venice, offering fresh perspectives deeply rooted in the urban environment, and methodologically engaging with both time and space.
