Akiyoshidai International Art Village(AIAV), designed by the architect Arata Isozaki, was founded in August 1998 as a base for the expressive and creative activities of international and domestic artists. The Village is set in a serene environment surrounded by the woods, thus providing artists with space and time to immerse themselves in creative activities. The term ‘village’ suggests that AIAV is not a single giant building but a collective of small neighboring buildings reminiscent of a traditional Japanese village.
