The School of Arts, Design, and Media is Norway’s largest academic institution for creative and artistic disciplines. With 1,600 students and 120 faculty members, we foster an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented environment at the intersection of education, research, and professional creative industries.
Our programs span a diverse range of fields, from film and TV production, music, and performing arts to design, creative writing, and computer arts. This broad artistic and creative portfolio reflects our commitment to both creation and performance, bridging traditional and emerging media. Through close collaboration with industry partners, we ensure that our students are prepared for the evolving demands of creative professions.
As a university-level institution, we place great emphasis on research-driven education. Our faculty and students actively engage in artistic and practice-based research, exploring new methods and perspectives that contribute to both academic knowledge and professional innovation. These insights are shared through exhibitions, performances, film screenings, symposia, and publications, reinforcing the school’s role as a leading contributor to artistic and creative discourse.
Since fall 2021, the school has been based in downtown Oslo, in the city’s vibrant creative district along the lower Akerselva River. Our programs at the bachelor’s and master’s levels offer students real opportunities for cross-disciplinary learning, and we are currently working toward establishing a PhD program.
