The Musée d’art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole (MAMC+), created in 1987, was the first regional modern art museum in France. Its collection is one of the finest in France, with close to 23,000 works. It mostly consists of works from the 20th century, but also collections of design, photographs and ancient art. The luminous building hosts around 60,000 visitors each year, in an exhibition surface area of 3,000 m². Five to six exhibitions a year invite the public to discover the collections, along with contemporary creations from international figures or young creators. The MAMC+ is an international museum, and 300 to 400 works from the collection are loaned every year and exhibited throughout the world.
The MAMC+ lies in the heart of a region rich in innovation and culture: Saint-Étienne is the first French city to be designated a “UNESCO Creative City of Design”.
