The Detroit Design Festival (DDF) was an annual celebration of Detroit’s vibrant design community, held from 2011 to 2017. Organized by the Detroit Design Network, the festival aimed to unite local designers, creatives, and entrepreneurs, positioning Detroit as a hub for innovation, creativity, and design excellence. Through a variety of exhibitions, installations, talks, and community-driven events, DDF provided a platform for both established and emerging designers to engage with the public and foster collaboration across industries. In 2015, in recognition of Detroit’s designation as a UNESCO City of Design, the city began recognizing September as Detroit’s Month of Design, turning the celebration into a month-long event. This shift set the stage for the end of DDF in 2017, when Detroit Month of Design fully took over the city’s design celebration.
