Professor of Communication Design (f/m/d)
Salary Grade W3 / Status of a civil servant with unlimited tenure / Reference number WP 25/02.
In the study program Integrated Design. The University of the Arts Bremen currently seeks applications from outstanding designers who will engage in teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Integrated Design. Candidates are expected to respond to the following requirements in terms of content, concept and media in their teaching and to contribute to the further development of the communication design field in collaboration with all other equally significant teaching areas within the program.
In light of the evolving field of communication design and its reception, new questions regarding net culture, temporality and the public sphere emerge continuously. For this position, applicants should demonstrate:
–a distinguished, internationally recognized, creative, and discursive position within the discipline,
–extensive, contemporary professional practice, substantial teaching experience, as well as an active international network,
–a broad range of conceptual and design approaches, a diverse and inclusive vision of communication design, and an open visual language across different media (time-based, web-based, print-based, generative, etc.),
–a reflective and emancipatory use of digital and analogue design techniques, tools and realization processes, as well as an awareness of their historical contexts,
–engagement with the social, cultural, political, commercial, and technological dimensions of communication design and the corresponding discourses,
–an understanding of communication design as a proactive, critical, social and initiative-driven practice and as a form of translation,
–the ability to initiate and lead multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary projects, research, and teaching.
At least one of year teaching experience at a university or at a comparable institution and a university degree are required and must be proven at the time of application.
Expected are active participation in the further development of the University of the Arts Bremen, collegial collaboration and participation in academic self-administration (official language: German). The position requires presence and a continuous commitment to work on-site at the University of the Arts Bremen. Candidates should be willing and able to teach in both German and English.
In addition, the recruitment requirements according to Section 116 of the Bremen Civil Service Act apply.
