Come one, come all to this year’s Assembly, an annual social practice art extravaganza! Join us at Lloyd Center Mall and other venues from Friday, June 7 through Sunday, June 9, for interactive and participatory artworks from Portland-based artists working in socially engaged art forms. Free and open to the public.
Presented by the graduate students of Portland State University’s Art + Social Practice MFA Program, Assembly is an annual three-day gathering for experimental events, workshops, and performances highlighting collaborative work and public artmaking.
The weekend event opens on Friday at the Lloyd Center Mall, with an experiential mall walk, followed by artist talks at Rose City Book Pub from Luz Blumenfeld, Liv DelGandio, and Gili Rappaport. Saturday is a full day at the Lloyd Center Mall and brings a talk show, buyer’s remorse shop, fashion show, life-size bingo and more! Plus, don’t miss the unveiling of a special collaboration with The Community for Positive Aging on Sunday morning.
“For this Assembly, the artists developed projects after spending considerable time as artists-in-residents at the mall. Wearing ID tags that declared themselves ‘mall artists’ they explored this unique and ever-changing mall to create maps that identified resources or ‘soft-spots’ in the mall and developed friendships and collaborations with mall shop-keepers, mall walkers, mall security, and mall visitors. The result is a fun, thoughtful and interactive day of events for the public,” M. Michelle Illuminato, Coordinator, Art and Social Practice MFA Program, Portland State University.
Detailed schedule closer to the event and more info can be found on our website, Instagram, and in the printed program available onsite. All events are free and open to public.
