The Ball Theater, the French participation at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition—the Venice Biennale—under the coordination of the Institut français, with the partnership of the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the French Minister of Culture, opens the Radio Utopia Ball, organized by the LIAT laboratory, ENSA Paris-Malaquais, and the AAU Cresson laboratory, ENSA Grenoble.
Radio Utopia is a sound laboratory imagined by Carlotta Darò and Nicolas Tixier, a radio theater that will take place inside the Ball Theater from August 1 to 5. As a recepting and broadcasting antenna, Radio Utopia extends the experience of debate, sound perception and exchange beyond the geographical and temporal perimeters of the Pavilion, the Giardini, and Venice. Conversely, this sound laboratory also invites voices from elsewhere to communicate with the temporary occupants of the Ball.
The program features sound installations, radio programs, broadcasts, and sound performances. Each day, different guests will debate and listen to testimonies and recorded documents on several subjects: listening to the world, the lasting sound, utopian territories, hearing cities, sound futures and sound fiction architecture. Finally, over 150 “news from around the world” will be broadcast during the week, inviting us to better grasp our times, learn to listen differently and make audible new voices from here and elsewhere.
The Ball Theater is a project by Gilles Delalex and Yves Moreau (Muoto) and Georgi Stanishev as lead curators, Jos Auzende as associate curator, Clémence La Sagna and Georgi Stanishev for the scenography and Anna Tardivel for the programming.
