Application deadline: October 31, 2021
The purpose of the Queen Sonja Print Award (QSPA) is to generate interest in and promote the development of graphic art. The HM Queen Sonja Art Foundation presents the Queen Sonja Print Award every other year. The prize is awarded to an outstanding artist who has excelled in the field of printmaking. The winner receives a cash prize of NOK 400,000, which is at present the greatest amount awarded for an international graphic art prize. The foundation also awards two other prizes: the honorary QSPA Lifetime Achievement Award, to an older, well established artist who has had a long and distinguished career in the field of graphic art and printmaking, and the QSPA Inspirational Award, to a young Nordic artist. The prizewinners are offered an opportunity to visit and work at printmaking workshops and are invited to present exhibitions, both together with other artists associated with the QSPA and as solo artists. The aim is to foster development, activity and involvement. The QSPA also collaborates with a number of different stakeholders on a long-term basis and in individual projects in order to achieve its goals.
Over the past 10 years, the foundation has worked to establish the Queen Sonja Print Award as an international prize, and has built up a broad international network. In the autumn of 2020, the foundation entered a new, expansive phase, and has moved into a modern building in the Bispevika district of Oslo.
The Director will have an overall and independent responsibility for administering the foundation and organising its work. The foundation currently has no permanent staff, but there are plans to engage an additional one or two employees, for a total staff of two person-years, including the Director. The staffing structure is currently being established, and the Director will be involved in this work.
Her Majesty The Queen is the chair of the foundation’s board.
