The jury awarded the worthiest project submitted by Mizuki Endo with the following statement:
After an initial visit to Bergamo Mizuki Endo began to think about the essential difference in art between Europe and Asia and conceived an exhibition with four artists coming from Asia entitled Aesthetics / Dietetics, which he based on the idea of diet through its original meaning way of life and also the idea of an ethical practise to give an aesthetical form to ones own life and Michel Foucaults understanding of the dietetic as a process of liberation in which care for the self leads to the reformulation of ones relationship with external socio-political structures. Endo also is seeing aesthetical practises in this sense as a necessary tool to rethink both the difficulty and the potentiality of contemporary art in the globalised world.
Mizuki Endo brings together installations, photography, video and sculpture from four artists of the youngest generation from Japan and the Philippines: Kikuko Nomi, Tsuyoshi Ozawa, Gary Ross Pastrana and Tadasu Takamine.
The award will consist in realization of the exhibition project Aesthetics / Dietetics in June 2006 at the GAMeC in Bergamo.
A bilingual catalogue (Italian/English) of the exhibition will be published, illustrating not only the content of the show but also presenting the other competing projects in detail.
The Premio Lorenzo Bonaldi per lArte EnterPrize is intended to support the innovative work of a young curator and his or her original exhibition project. The aim of this award is to highlight the key role and importance of curators not only on the international art scene but also in the broader context of contemporary cultural practices, in addition to encouraging and supporting the talent of a young curator at an extremely critical moment in his or her professional career.
This prize was inaugurated in 2003 by the Galleria dArte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo with the support of Bonaldis family to commemorate Lorenzo Bonaldis passion for art and collecting.
Each year some advisors are invited to nominate one curator, who can take part in the competition in one year only. In a second phase an international jury, different every year, composed of three outstanding representatives of the international art world will award the Prize to the project that is recognized as being the most innovative elaboration of critical thought on the dynamics connected with the conceptualization and execution of an exhibition, as well as its relative feasibility and compliance with the assigned budget.
The Prize itself will consist in execution of the winning project in a specially dedicated space of GAMeC
