Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (M HKA) presents Contact Mood Share by Hanne Lippard, a three-part programme focusing on language, especially the vocabulary and semiology that comes with particular social changes and developments.
Hanne Lippard’s project materialises through a display of artworks and a programme of events, which varies under the specific scope of three planned seasons. The exhibitions feature a combination of existing works, adaptations of past projects and new productions by Lippard, forming the most generous articulation of works by the artist to date. A programme of events consisting of discursive and performative contributions is planned through the year, while expressing a different focus per season.
Together the two parts form the seasonal conditions for research processes, rehearsals, discussions and creations.

Hanne Lippard works with language both as subject and medium of her artistic practice. She is particularly interested in the differentiation and discrepancy between spoken and written words. For over a decade the artist has developed a practice of performances, installations, sound, image and graphic-based artworks, printed matter and publications. Her productions arise from a highly personal perspective while succeeding to capture and encompass collective vocabularies, attitudes and dynamics. Lippard creates a privileged ground for analysis, observation and inspiration in today’s frantic communication landscape to reflect on a broad range of subjects extending beyond pure communication. Her approach involves processes of isolation, extraction, articulation, dilution and repetition of words. In doing so, Lippard makes language self-conscious of its intimate and collective implications, highlighting its role in carrying historical and contemporary (sometimes anecdotal) claims, liberating it from certain misuses and abuses or simply confronting it with its own expression at times generic or idiosyncratic. Within this context, English has become a material for contributing to the understanding and analysis of norms, customs and uses.
Contact Mood Share by Hanne Lippard is the inaugural project of M HKA’s Superhost series.
It is generously supported by the Office for Contemporary Art Norway (OCA), with additional support from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Brussels.
SUPERHOST is a program investing in a yearlong relationship between an artist or a collective practice, the museum and its participating communities, and supporting the production of artworks, performative or discursive creations.
Every year, one artist or collective is invited to be M HKA’s Superhost.
SUPERHOST is jointly curated by Anne-Claire Schmitz and Joanna Zielińska.
