KOKATAO is the effect of the meeting of two visual artists,
Grzegorz Drozd and
Zbigniew Libera, who decided to have a conversation without words. In a non-verbal process of communication, an expressive energy exchange, they used musical instruments and then visuals. They met at Faust Records studio in Prague, where they recorded improvised sessions of audio eruptions. The results are seven unusual pieces that have been issued in a limited vinyl edition. Record covers are another stage of their dialogue. Each is a unique work of art by the two artists—one side by Drozd, the other by Libera: painted images, drawings, collages, conceptual games. Drozd painted his covers in Asia—Thailand, Malaysia, India, the Himalayas, while Libera mainly in Europe. These are maps of mental peregrinations, where Czech beer mixes with the waters of Lake Como and the warm seas of Southeast Asia… In effect, the artists’ power of cool provoked a visual/musical tsunami. KOKATAO is a clash of techniques, personalities, coca-cola, cocaine and tao.
A show at Piktogram/BLA will present selected covers, documentation of the artists’ meetings, and music. For the opening, Drozd and Libera will recreate live an improvised recording session, using equipment brought specially for the occasion from the Faust Records studio in Prague.
