The journey from the announcement of a project to its completion is long, and twists, diversions and accidents are frequent. So close and yet so far narrates stories that failed or were diverted from their original plans. So close and yet so far is not an exhibition which plans to launch into the future, but rather, to quote George Didi-Huberman to “go through history the wrong way, to reveal the underlying skin, the hidden flesh of things.” Like an archaeologist, we must go back in time and find the origins of events. We must turn around and see what prevails over the things we can observe and judge. A grand idea, a natural order, the desire to find something better or control a situation. From anecdotes to history, we often take the wrong track, but this can only be understood if we look into the greater memory of things. The artworks presented contain suggestions of failure and vanity. But if all of history is made up of both prophesies and tragedies, it seems that time usually follows its course, and inevitably starting anew is the most beautiful outcome possible. So close and yet so far brings together sculptures, paintings and videos by seven artists working on the course of history.
