Grant for exhibition initiatives by non-Italian organisations featuring one or more Italian artists
Application deadline: November 26, 2018
The Fondazione Quadriennale di Roma, Italy’s national institution aimed at promoting contemporary Italian art, is proud to announce the launch of its second Q-INTERNATIONAL grant (fall 2018), aimed at supporting non-Italian institutions and organisations which showcase Italian artists.
After the recent assignment of the first grant (spring 2018) which awarded 11 International organisations (see list below), Quadriennale di Roma is now publishing its second Q-INTERNATIONAL call which can be downloaded from the Foundation website at the following link.
Application deadline for the fall 2018 call: Monday, November 26, 4pm CEST
The Fondazione Quadriennale di Roma coordinates initiatives related to research, training and promotion of Italian art throughout the year. At the same time the Foundation is responsible for the organization of the Rome Quadriennale, the large-scale exhibition held every four years in Rome since 1931 which showcases the most significant trends in the visual arts in Italy. The next Rome Quadriennale, curated by Sarah Cosulich and Stefano Collicelli Cagol, will inaugurate in Rome in October 2020.
The Q-INTERNATIONAL grant is part of the new programme of the Quadriennale di Roma, aimed at increasing the visibility of Italian artists outside the national boundaries through an activity of constant dialogue and exchange with international organisations.
Eligible for Q-INTERNATIONAL grants are non-Italian non-profit public or private organisations whose purpose is the promotion of the contemporary visual arts: museums, university institutes, kunsthalle, kunstverein, kunsthaus, centres for contemporary art, foundations, alternative spaces, cultural associations and organisations such as biennials, triennials and quadrennials can apply for funding for projects which involve one or more Italian artists.
Q-INTERNATIONAL wishes to provide an opportunity for flexible and rapid support for expenses linked to the organisation of the artistic events, from art transport costs, to artists’ travel and accommodation expenses, to contributions for performance fees or publications, with the exclusion of costs related to the production of artworks.
The Q-International call is published regularly twice a year.
The third call (spring 2019) will be published on April 30, 2019.
The applications received are assessed by a committee composed of Cristiana Collu (director of the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Rome), Alberto Garutti (artist and professor), Cesare Pietroiusti (artist and professor) and Andrea Viliani (director of MADRE - Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Donnaregina, Naples). The committee, headed by Franco Bernabè, president of the Fondazione Quadriennale di Roma, will also include its artistic director, Sarah Cosulich, and its curator Stefano Collicelli Cagol. The biographical details of the members of the committee are published on the Foundation website.

The programme proposed by Cosulich, who was selected through a public call in December 2017, marks a radical change in the Foundation’s strategy by aiming at strengthening the role of Italian artists abroad. Stefano Collicelli Cagol has been appointed as co-curator for the 2020 exhibition as well as of the research, workshop and symposium activities of the three years leading up to the exhibition.
