Connecting Cities events
Connecting Cities is a new urban media format, which connects cities and its citizens with artistic real-time projects on urban media facades. Every year the Connecting Cities Network (CCN) organises a series of Connecting Cities Events for presenting artists’ projects at central places of 16 cities worldwide. In 2013, several Connecting Cities Events already took place in Melbourne, Dessau, Berlin, Liverpool, Linz, Madrid, Riga, and Helsinki. More Connecting Cities Events will take place until November and are embedded in different festivals.

Project example
The Puppet Master creates a playful connecting between public and private space with two defined roles: one for the citizens in front of the media façade, and another one for the people who can control and modify the digital world from another city to foster the interaction between both worlds.

Call for Proposals: Participatory City 2014
You want to participate in Connecting Cities? We invite artists to submit projects that enable citizens to experience new ways of interaction with the urban environment.
In 2014, with the topic of Participatory City, the Connecting Cities Network will in particular discuss the question of how urban media facades as a temporary field of interaction can become a catalyst for shared encounters and a platform for urban activism. Can art projects trigger an engagement of the citizens within their local communities? Can they help us exchange our expectations and visions with our (European) neighbours? Participatory City 2014 is all about experimenting in the public space with participatory processes that aim at exploring these and other questions.
Please submit your proposal until 20 October via the application platform of Connecting Cites Network partner Amber Platform: submissions.amberplatform.org

About the Connecting Cities Network
The Connecting Cities Network (CCN) reflects on the increasing worldwide presence of large-format digital media in the public space and examines their function as cultural and communicative elements. By circulating artistic content on an internationally networked infrastructure of urban media facades, the CCN questions the increasing commercialization of our urban environments and supports the idea of the public space as a space for creativity, visibility and exchange of culture.
