By the end of the month, Art Brussels will close its applications for Art Brussels 2015. After a strong previous edition, many candidates have already signed up for the upcoming edition.
A pole of attraction for international collectors and art professionals
One out of five visitors from the previous edition was an art professional coming mainly from Western Europe (collector, art advisor, curator or museum director). This led to the great satisfaction of the participating galleries, 88% of whom were content in terms of sales objectives, according to the exhibitors’ survey. The average price range of sold works is 5,000–60,000 EUR with exceptions above 500,000 EUR. The noteworthy concentration of committed collectors in Belgium itself is one of the reasons that Art Brussels is attracting more and more international collectors.
Brussels, a thriving city for art
Brussels continues to attract international attention and more newcomers in terms of artists, galleries and curators. This, in addition to the committed cultural institutions, is currently solidifying Brussels’ reputation as one of Europe’s most interesting and promising contemporary art cities. This enables Art Brussels to offer a rich and diverse VIP programme, coordinated by Head of VIP relations, Marie Vander Elst. Art Brussels is also happy to support Brussels Art Days, the Brussels gallery weekend which takes place on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September this year.
A fair with a curatorial approach
Over the last years, Art Brussels has solidified its reputation as a leading European fair. The expertise of Anne Vierstraete, Managing Director, and Katerina Gregos, Artistic Director—who was recently appointed as the curator of the Belgian pavilion for the next Venice Biennale as well as curator of the next Thessaloniki Biennale—have contributed to raise both the profile and the quality of the fair. Gregos’s artistic vision is translated on different levels in the fair: from her involvement in the selection of the galleries to the implementation of the artistic programming through platforms like #thestage, for debates, talks, and performances, #thecinema, for short films and artists’ video projects, the selection of the artist-run and not-for-profit spaces, as well as the artistic and architectural interventions in the fair.
Bridging emerging and established art
Although many established galleries are participating in Art Brussels, the fair is perceived as a “discovery fair,” a place where collectors can find works of artists at the beginning of their career. Art Brussels 2015 features five sections in order to ensure the balance of upcoming, young and established artists, including two new sections.
Sections:
–PRIME: galleries presenting predominantly established artists on an international level
–YOUNG: galleries presenting predominantly emerging artists on an international level
(Galleries may apply for a SOLO presentation by a single artist in both above-mentioned categories, either as an annex to the main stand or as a presentation in the entire booth)
–New!! DISCOVERY: galleries presenting a project with a strong discovery element for the European art scene
–New!! VIEWPOINT: leading galleries presenting special projects (upon invitation only, on a first come, first served basis)
–CURATOR’S VIEW: galleries presenting a coherent, thematic group show curated by either an artist, a curator or the gallery itself

The Discovery Committee, for the selection of the DISCOVERY section consists of a group of international curators: Daria de Beauvais, Curator, Palais de Tokyo (Paris) / Chris Fitzpatrick, Director, Objectif Exhibitions (Antwerp) / Katerina Gregos, Curator, Artistic Director, Art Brussels / Nathalie Hartjes, Artistic Director, Nieuwe Vide, Haarlem and coordinator of the Gallerist Programme at De Appel Arts Centre (Amsterdam) and Johan Holten, Director, Staatliche Kunsthalle (Baden-Baden).
The selection of the SOLO presentations and of the nominees for the SOLO Prize, as well as the selection of the CURATOR’S VIEW section is made by Katerina Gregos, Curator, Artistic Director, Art Brussels.
