The new contemporary art platform Dio Horia reflects on current cultural developments in Greece and abroad by exploring issues of local and global significance. Through an extensive program of exhibitions, events, research, and publishing, Dio Horia ignites the public dialogue, as well as the production of new artworks. Its collaborative projects draw diverse audiences, including both the non-art public and professionals, while its publications stir up field research with the consequent emergence of fresh perspectives on Greek culture. Dio Horia acts as a multifaceted hub for the arts, while its artworks production program supports young Greek artists and introduces their practices to the global art community.
At the center of all these activities is the artist residency program in Mykonos, which invites artists to objectively research a place (and a whole country) typically characterized by a plethora of preconceived ideas. During their stay at Dio Horia, each artist is invited to create an artwork in response to his/her experience there. These artworks offer new perspectives and add to the kaleidoscopic cultural landscape of Mykonos, while building bridges between the local specificities and the global map of contemporary art.
During this season (June–October 2015), a group show curated by Marina Vranopoulou will be presented under the title Dio Horia in Mykonos. This exhibition brings together works by Hugo Canoilas, Maja Djordjevic, Vassilis H., Linda Havenstein, Elias Kafouros, Dionisis Kavallieratos, Panayiotis Loukas, Olga Migliaressi-Phoca, Malvina Panagiotidi, Rallou Panagiotou, Selma Parlour, Wilhelm Sasnal, Aleksandar Todorovic, Panos Tsagaris, Alexandros Tzannis, Aleksandra Urban, Jannis Varelas and Honza Zamojski. Dio Horia in Mykonos highlights the attraction-repulsion attitude and relationship associated with Mykonos, as well as the current situation of tourism and the sociopolitical upheavals in Greece.
During the summer, Dio Horia is also presenting a series of solo shows created as a result of the artist residency program in Mykonos. These are:
Vassilis H., Vacation, June 27–July 20 / Opening June 26
Selma Parlour, Paradoxes of the Flattened-out Cavity, June 27–July 20 / Opening June 26
Maja Djordjevic, I don’t know you, but I love you, July 25–August 20 / Opening July 24
Rallou Panagiotou, Lycra proper, July 25–August 20 / Opening July 24
Olga Migliaressi-Phoca, Coco Nuts, August 23–September 22 / Opening August 22
Alexandros Tzannis, Wave after wave after wave… (It’s all for her), August 23–September 22 / Opening August 22
Finally, Dio Horia engages in collaborative projects developed as a result of associations with artists, curators, non-profit organizations and cultural carriers. These fall into categories ranging from social, cultural and literary studies to music and performing arts. Through these collaborations, Dio Horia plays host to diverse viewpoints and aesthetics. First collaborators include DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art and OMMU Bookshop, as well as Atelier Arizona. Both DESTE Foundation and OMMU Bookshop are presenting a curated selection of artist’s books and catalogues. Atelier Arizona is embarking on an ambitious architectural intervention in the outer facade of the building.
