Aperto ’93: Emergency / Emergenza catalog out now
Flash Art Books is pleased to announce that the catalog of Aperto ’93: Emergency / Emergenza—the first Biennial exhibition to be conceived both as an art magazine and as a full-scale exhibition within an exhibition—is now available to buy. This is a limited edition of the original publication.
Comprising 146 artists and 13 curators, organized by Flash Art publisher Helena Kontova in collaboration with Francesco Bonami, Nicolas Bourriaud, Jeffrey Deitch, Robert Nickas, and Benjamin Weil, as well as Frieze founder Matthew Slotover, Aperto ’93 was a polyphonic, international showcase dedicated to emerging artists, consisting of 13 sections which together made up an innovative whole.
Through its fluid, rhizomic structure, Aperto ’93 anticipated the exponential growth of social networking by imagining a continuous agglomeration of new and different cells. By involving diverse representatives of the art industry, Aperto ’93 also proposed an equality between the different roles of artist, curator, art dealer and editor that has come to characterise the discourse of contemporary art.
