University of Zurich‘s Art Market Studies, with the generous support of PARKETT, invites you to a conversation between Hans Ulrich Obrist and Kenny Schachter.

Hans Ulrich Obrist is the Artistic Director of the Serpentine Galleries, London, and co-founder of 89plus. Prior to this, he was the Curator of the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. Since his first show World Soup (The Kitchen Show) in 1991, he has curated more than 300 exhibitions. His recent publications include Conversations in Mexico, Ways of CuratingThe Age of Earthquakes with Douglas Coupland and Shumon Basar, and Lives of The Artists, Lives of The Architects. Obrist has lectured internationally at academic and art institutions, and is a contributing editor to the magazines Artforum, AnOther Magazine032C, a regular contributor to Mousse and Kaleidoscope and he writes columns for Das Magazin and Weltkunst. In 2011 he received the CCS Bard Award for Curatorial Excellence, and in 2015 he was awarded the International Folkwang Prize for his commitment to the arts.

Kenny Schachter has been curating contemporary art exhibits in museums and galleries for nearly 30 years and teaches seminars in art history. Schachter has lectured internationally including keynote speeches at University of Zurich Art Market Studies, London Business School, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art; been the recipient of a Rockefeller supported grant, and contributed to books on Paul Thek, Zaha Hadid, Vito Acconci and Sigmar Polke and Gerhard Richter. Schachter is a regular contributor to Artnet, British GQ, and on occasion The Art Newspaper and New York Magazine, among others. Kenny Schachter deals in international art from Impressionist and modernism to the art and design of today. Schachter is self-taught in art and previously was an entertainment law writer, lawyer, fashion design apprentice, worked on the floor of the stock exchange, and was a practicing artist.

University of Zurich’s Executive Master in Art Market Studies trains university graduates who are currently active or pursuing a career in the art market. The program’s teaching staff includes scholars and international art market specialists. Next program will start in September 2017. Courses are held on Fridays and Saturdays in Zurich and are taught entirely in English.
