QUALIFICATIONS: MFA in Art Studio (or equivalent degree); a record of exhibition and related research practice (curating, publishing, commissions, etc.); evidence of successful teaching experience; interest in contemporary curriculum development is required. Administrative experience is considered an asset.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Instruct undergraduate and graduate courses in Art Studio in one or more of the following areas: Sculpture, Installation, Printmaking, Drawing, Digital Arts. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in her/his areas of specialization and to contribute to the shared teaching at both the introductory and advanced levels of the BFA program — including courses in Foundation Studio and Senior Studio. Applicants should be conversant with contemporary art theory, practice and criticism and should be able to serve on MFA supervisory committees as required. The successful candidate will be expected to take an active part in the academic and administrative life of the Department and the University.
PROGRAM: The Department of Art offers BFA degrees with majors in Art Studio and in Art History/Museum Studies. It also offers combined degrees in Art and Education, and has recently established an MFA degree program. The Faculty of Fine Arts, with departments in Art, Drama, Music, and New Media is housed in the Centre for the Arts with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Lethbridge is home to a dynamic art community with nationally recognized local artists and galleries. The university possesses a significant art collection that fosters direct student access to historical and contemporary artwork, while a lively and extensive Visiting Speakers in the Arts Program enhances communication with the broader community.
