The seminar Acción Urgente. Acciones Urbanas (Urgent Action. Urban Actions) will take place in the framework of the exhibition. The event, which is coordinated by the exhibition’s curators Cecilia Rabossi and Rodrigo Alonso, attempts to map the various forms and strategies of intervention that engage the city as visual setting, fostering the demands of the citizenry and heeding pressing political and social events.
The day-long event at Proa provides an opportunity to learn about the history of each of the participating groups and their actions over time. It also offers a venue for dialogue with the protagonists in those actions. The seminar evidences how artists have heeded citizens’ concerns to give shape to a regional scenario.
With this event, Fundación Proa furthers its tradition of bringing together experience and history and those who have played a crucial role in shaping them. This seminar gathers 15 leading groups that, over the course of two decades, have formulated urban actions that have given rise to a new way of conceiving and producing contemporary art.
The following collectives are included in the seminar and the exhibition: Escombros, Costuras Urbanas, Etcétera (Internacional Erroristas), Viva Laura Pérez, Mujeres Públicas e Iconoclasistas (Argentina); Mujeres Creando (Bolivia); Frente 3 de Fevereiro, Opavivará, and Contrafilé (Brazil); Cuadernos de Movilización (Chile); Javier López & Erika Meza (Paraguay); Colectivo Sociedad Civil and La Perrera (Peru); and Clemente Padín and Grupo Mujeres Artistas en Movimiento (MAM) (Uruguay).
