The International Leadership Program in Visual Arts Management (ILPVAM) is an advanced art and business executive certificate program offered by three leading institutions with specialties in visual arts, global markets, and business management: the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development (New York University, US), Deusto Business School (University of Deusto, Spain), and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (Bilbao, Spain).
ILPVAM comprises two eight-day modules taught in English over the course of five months, in Bilbao and New York, and provides an exceptional immersive on-site learning experience, not only through intensive lectures and discussion with experts in their respective fields, but also through exchanges with an informed and engaged participant group from different areas of the globe. Participants emerge from the program with a broadened worldview, new perspectives on cutting-edge arts management and business methods and approaches, and ideas on how to adapt the extensive knowledge gained to individual career situations and strategies.

Bilbao: June 2–9, 2015 (site visit to Madrid included)

New York: October 2–9, 2015
“Leadership in the Global Art Sector”
In Bilbao, participants will receive substantial business management training in strategy and value creation, financial management, sustainability and innovation, and leadership. High profile speakers such as the Director General of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao; the Director of the Prado Museum; the current mayor of Bilbao; the Head of the Urban Development Department for the Bilbao City Council; and the Director of the Cultural Department (La Caixa Foundation) among others, will present essential background information and discuss current related issues in the arts management field.
Visual arts management topics include Building Cultural Value & Capital; Mission, Identity & Institutional Visibility; Culture-led Initiatives, including Creative Industries and Cultural Tourism; Programming, Curatorial Practices & Exhibition Management; Education, Interpretation & Interaction with the Public; and Strategic Alliances, Partnerships & Collaborations.
Classroom sessions will be supplemented by site visits in Bilbao, including a “backstage” tour of the Guggenheim Bilbao, and site visits in Madrid to the Prado Museum and the newly opened National Archaeological Museum.
In New York, the business modules will focus on change management, strategy, and branding and brand management. Experts based in local visual arts institutions and organizations will address a wide range of arts management topics including Audience and Community Development; Innovations in Fundraising; Digital Strategy; Cultural Marketing and Communications; Interactivity and Participation in Museum Education; Cultural Diplomacy; and current Fair Use Practices in Art Law.
Site visits will include the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Queens Museum.
The program is aimed at professionals with at least five years of relevant experience in the field of visual arts or related arts disciplines. Candidates with significant work experience in other areas, and interest in advancing their career in this field, will also be considered.
Completion of the two modules leads to the award of a Program Certificate by the University of Deusto and New York University.
