UR Yokodai

UR stands for Urban Renaissance Agency, an independent administrative agency whose mission is to improve and service housing environment for the public. The Future of DANCHI is a project directed by UR, Kengo Kuma, and Kashiwa Sato to revive DANCHI for the next generation. Danchi, or a big apartment complex, was a measure taken by the government that would provide families with housing at the time of high economic growth. Given the transition of the time, the project (called The Future of DANCHI) aims to revive those complexes in Japan as relaxed sites for communities that can suit the age of rapid-aging and declining birthrate.
