We are pleased to announce the fourth issue of the e-flux Index, now available in print and for digital download. This issue combines all the pieces published by e-flux from June–July 2024.

On its cover the Index carries a labyrinth, composed from many winding textual paths, nooks, and crannies. Magazines and labyrinths share a certain nonlinearity. This publication’s ambition is partially to help orient readers through the breadth of two months of e-flux.com’s broad commissioning across arts, architecture, criticism, philosophy, film, and a whole galaxy of other topics, and to thereby give structure and coherence to the multi-tabbed browsers of an often-cluttered digital publishing landscape. But like any good labyrinth it also remains attuned to the project of radical disorientation. The resultant Index is situated somewhere between a travel guide to the contemporary moment and the Situationist “counter-maps” produced by Guy Debord, Michéle Bernstein, Jacqueline de Jong, and Asger Jorn for their experimental dérives through the city and the archive.

Ranging from short articles and reviews of exhibitions, books, and films, to extensive interviews, long-form essays, and new theoretical vernaculars, the maze of Index #4 is constructed from nine interlocking chapters. These range from Forty Good Evenings, a section which considers verbal domination and various efforts to “restore the truth” to languages ransacked by jargon and ideology, to How to Measure Everything, which gathers together pieces that take a step backwards to take some distance from it all. Elsewhere, Elephants Without Tusks reckons with nature beyond “nature” and Not Asking for a Trip to the Moon examines the heterogeneity of contemporary social movements and labor organising.

Index #4 features contributions from: Mal Ahern, Michelangelo Antonioni, Stephanie Bailey, Franco “Bifo” Berardi, Xenia Benivolski, Crystal Bennes, Tega Brain, Lukas Brasiskis, Dare Brawley, Ilya Budraitskis, Phil Chang, Changwen Chen, Nina Chkareuli-Mdivani, Kim Córdova, Hugh Davies, Luce deLire, Irmgard Emmelhainz, Orit Gat, Boris Groys, Valérian Guillier, Ksenya Gurshtein, Jörg Heiser, Daisy Hildyard, Isabel Jacobs, Marianna Janowicz, Alexander Kluge, Alexi Kukuljevic, Michael Kurtz, Patrick Langley, Sam Lavigne, Max Levin, Isabel Ling, Chelsea Manning, Basim Magdy, Erin McElroy, John Douglas Millar, Shana Moulton, Novuyo Moyo, Chris Murtha, Benjamin Noys, Francisco Nunes, Lai Yi Ohlsen, Bami Oke, Mimi Ọnụọha, Sean O’Toole, Matteo Pasquinelli, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Agnieszka Polska, Filipa Ramos, Lucia Rebolino, Liara Roux, Janus Rose, Frank Ruda, Panu Savolainen, Bruce Schneier, Fanny Singer, Nikolay Smirnov, Murtaza Vali, Anton Vidokle, Wendy Vogel, Kate Wagner, Hindley Wang, Xin Wang, Yifan Wang, McKenzie Wark, Pramodha Weerasekera, Slavoj Žižek, and Alenka Zupančič.
