Atlantis

Fouad Elkoury (b. 1952, Paris) portrays the turbulent past of Lebanon and the Middle East as well as daily life in the present in photographs, videos, and installation works. His photographs have striven to document and respond to political conflict and popular upheaval, inspired by time spent at home in Lebanon, as well as Egypt, Turkey, Gaza, and the Occupied Territories. Elkoury co-founded the Arab Image Foundation to archive and preserve photographs of the region’s collective history. He has held numerous solo shows inlcuding in Buenos Aires, Munich, Geneva, Paris, Dubai, Beirut, Rome, and Tokyo. His works are part of permanent collections including the Centre Pompidou, Maison Europeenne de la Photographie, and Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. He lives between Paris and Beirut.
