Beirut—or maybe any city, anywhere, that is at war with itself. Here, no conflict is ever resolved, no wall is ever repaired. In this city full of holes, explosions resonate better. Those who live there have a choice between the army and religion—or between religion and the army. I visit some friends, and gather their suicidal testaments. No one goes anywhere. I cross my city in every possible way, day and night… Time doesn’t change. If I have to shoot this movie again, I will do it exactly the same way.
Wael Noureddine’s Ça sera beau is presented within Postcards from Afar, the first of five chapters in Memories for Forgetfulness Elsewhere, an online film program curated by Irmgard Emmelhainz for e-flux Video & Film. The program streams in five thematic group screenings each two weeks long, and will be accompanied by two live discussions.
