Maria Fusco is a Belfast-born writer and Professor of Fine Art at Northumbria University. Previously, she was Reader in Interdisciplinary Writing at University of Edinburgh and Director of Art Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London. She lectures internationally and is the founding editor of cross-genre journal The Happy Hypocrite. Her writing is interdisciplinary, working across the registers of criticism, fiction, performance and theory, and is translated into ten languages.
Her essays on interdisciplinary writing have appeared in books from academic publishers including Goldsmiths Press; MIT Press; and Routledge, and in magazines including, Frieze, Metropolis M, and The White Review. Recent sole-authored works include the performances ECZEMA! (Accidental Records and National Theatre Wales, 2018), Master Rock (Artangel/BBC Radio 4, 2015), and the books Give Up Art: Collected Critical Writing (New Documents, 2018) and Legend of the Necessary Dreamer (Vanguard Editions, 2017). She has been writer-in-residence at Kadist Art Foundation, Paris; Whitechapel Gallery, London; and the Lisbon Architecture Triennale. She has recently commissioned and edited a series of books, copublished by Book Works and The Common Guild, on the uses of dialect in contemporary international art writing.
