José Cardoso is Seydú’s father, and a filmmaker, illustrator, and graphic designer. He has developed fiction, animation, and documentary films on themes revolving around surrealism, consciousness, and anti-colonialism. After being selected for his first feature film Iwianch, The Devil Deer at the 59th Ann Arbor Film Festival, he won the Tom Berman Award for the most promising filmmaker. His work has been awarded in IFFR Rotterdam (Ammodo Tiger Short Film Award), Regina International Film Festival, China International New Media Short Film Festival, Ícaro, Ningbo Short Film Festival, Siberia Doc Film Festival, Kunturñawi, and Premio Colibrí, and selected at Sitges Cinema Fantàstic, Festival de Cine Latinoamericano de La Habana, Internationale Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Sheffield DocFest, BlackStar Film Festival, and ImagineNative among others.
