The title of eobchae’s film AMAEBCH is a combination of acronyms reflecting the collective’s latest interests in Web 3—AMA as the abbreviation of “Ask me anything” from social media culture, and EBCH as a symbol for the cryptocurrency Eobchaecoin. The protagonist of AMAEBCH is Bisamuncheon, the king of the afterlife from the medieval Korean novel The Tale of Seol Gongchan. In AMAEBCH, Bisamuncheon manifests itself as an executive of Eobchaecoin (an altcoin created by eobchae) via scattered body graphics generated from a LiDAR sensor, answering AMA questions created from GPT-3. The questioners of AMA are sentient beings who are eager to know the destiny of Eobchaecoin. By introducing a supreme existence to bridge three recent artworks made between 2020 to 2022 in the film, eobchae shares a possible world where fictional entities based on very different periods can exist together.
AMAEBCH is one of five films presented by the 19th edition of the Experimental Film and Video Festival in Seoul – EXiS, as part of a special selection on e-flux Video & Film streaming for two weeks from August 18 to September 1, and accompanied by a conversation between EXiS 2022 programmer Inhan Cho and e-flux’s Lukas Brasiskis. See the full program here.
The program is part of the series Festival Forum on e-flux Video & Film, presenting collaborations with established and emerging moving-image festivals from around the world.
