Public Art München is a programme of the City of Munich Department of Arts and Culture. The city of Munich invests 1.5 percent of its building costs in art every year. Half of the budget goes to Quivid, the city’s art-in-architecture programme. The other half is used for temporary art in public spaces. The goal of Public Art München is to engage with the local community, provoke thought, spark conversations, and encourage people to interact with art in unexpected places. Through tenders and competitions, Public Art München realises annual thematic series (ANNUALE), art on the billboard at Lenbachplatz (BILLBOARD), temporary international individual projects (SOLO), international curated project series (FESTIVAL), as well as projects on culture of remembrance in urban space (MEMORY).
