The Institute of the Arts and Sciences was established in 2013 as an interdisciplinary exhibition and event forum at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The Institute’s mission is to harness the creative power of the arts and the sciences to explore big questions and critical issues of our time. It contributes to the cultural life of UC Santa Cruz and features the work of nationally renowned artists and groundbreaking scientists and scholars. Through exhibitions, residency programs, lectures, symposia, and publications, the Institute provides active opportunities for collaboration and learning for students and faculty, the broader campus community, and visitors alike. The Institute’s programming takes place across the university campus and reflects the distinct, interdisciplinary culture of UC Santa Cruz, its commitment to social engagement, and public service.
