NW, Open House for Contemporary Art and Film

NW is an open house, an international centre for contemporary art, and an independent cinema located in Aalst, Belgium. NW commissions work by national and international artists within a programme of exhibitions, performances, workshops, and talks.

At NW, we focus on the interplay between artistic development and the everyday life in and around our space. The tension between big, abstract ideas and the small, real details, so to speak. We hold the belief that by paying attention to small, everyday dynamics we can broaden our perspective and strengthen our understanding of the world. Our film programme is grounded in the same mission of artistic development. To us, film is a realm for exchange, dialogue, and community building. The here-and-now of Aalst shapes the engagements NW develops with artists and audiences.
