Founded in 2010 by Paul Chan, Badlands Unlimited makes and publishes books in an expanded field; e-books, paper books, and artist works in digital and print forms. Badlands publishes and produces new works by artists and writers that embody the spirit of the emerging dissolution of historical distinctions between books, files, and artworks. They aim to offer never-before-seen formats that are easily publicly accessible. In 2016, Badlands opened its first retail flagship outlet store: the Y.oung P.ublisher’s 99¢ & Up. Located in a Chinatown dollar store, Badlands bestsellers share retail space with toilet paper, vases, colorful plastic flowers, and more — all at unbeatable prices.
