Founded in 1999, Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art is a registered charitable organization based in Toronto, Canada that fosters the appreciation and understanding of contemporary photographic, media and digital arts.
Through exhibitions, publications and related activities, Prefix presents the work of contemporary Canadian artists and critically examines the issues that affect the dissemination of contemporary art. Additionally, the organization presents the work of significant international artists who are under-represented in Canada, and it partners in touring the work of Canadian artists internationally. Prefix presents an array of public programming initiatives, including its annual international lecture series, the Urban Field Speakers Series, as well as symposia, film/video screenings and related events.
Prefix is supported by its members and patrons, and by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council through the City of Toronto.
