Hartwig Art Foundation is dedicated to fostering and facilitating the production, presentation, communication, and preservation of contemporary art. Our aim is to enrich society by supporting the cultural ecosystem in the Netherlands and beyond.
Our definition of art encompasses all forms of visual art, time-based creations, and emerging art forms that contribute to the ongoing development of artistic expression and media. Through our efforts in the production, presentation, mediation, preservation, and collection of contemporary art, we strive to cultivate a sustainable cultural environment that benefits society as a whole, both in terms of infrastructure and people.
We believe in promoting diverse and inclusive artistic exchanges while continuously pushing for the advancement of creative production of the highest standards. Our goal is to facilitate the arts and its institutions as accessible spaces for all people to come together and be involved.
We currently strive to achieve these objectives in three ways: firstly, through our Production | Collection Fund, which supports the realisation of ambitious artworks by artists selected by our Commissioning Committee. These works become part of our collection and are subsequently donated to the ‘Rijkscollectie.’ In addition to that, we are constantly looking at the Collectie Nederland, and, if possible, we try to add works that are missing from history, from around the beginning of the 90’s on. Lastly, we (co)present our own line of Programmes, emphasising new formats of collaboration with local and international partners through co-presentations, shared production lines, and long-term educational programmes – which all together serve as the blueprint for our future museum plans.
