Austria
The KinderKunstLabor—an architecturally innovative building and new kind of meeting place for international contemporary art, children, and artists—will be completed in St. Pölten, Austria, by 2024. It will offer two annual exhibitions, a children’s biennial, and interrelated workshops and projects all centered around children up to twelve years. Their perspectives serve as the basis and educational instrument for all parties. Adults interested in art, experts in the field of art as well as those from the young visitors’ world can engage with an international art scene, participate in artistic experiments, and immerse themselves in the children’s perspective.
Children are not just visitors to the venue they also play a central role in shaping the new institution. They participate in developing themes and content together with the artists and the team. Over 100 young people help to define the KinderKunstLabor and make it their own place.
With its high-quality, artistic and contemporary offerings, the KinderKunstLabor opens up a third space for creative processes that has not existed previously in this form. At the learning institution, experiences and insights from these processes will be integrated into a specially developed certification center for art education for and with a young audience.
