The Academy of Fine Arts Munich (Akademie der Bildenden Künste München) is one of the most significant arts academies in Germany. It can look back on over 200 years of history and is located close to other universities, numerous museums, and galleries.
Currently around 800 students are enrolled. The majority pursues Fine Arts in over 20 separate classes each headed by a professor with an individual artistic approach. Classes range from Painting, Graphic Arts and Photography to Sculpture, Glass, Ceramics, Jewellery and Hollowware as well as Scenography and Stage Costume Design. A personal atmosphere is created in the art classes and in the courses of study, which focus on the encouragement of exceptional artistic talent according to individual interests and areas of specialisation. The classes are complemented by twenty study workshops and a library, as well as seminars and lectures in art history, philosophy/aesthetics, interdisciplinary studies and art education. Students of Art Education gain a teaching degree and may continue their studies in a PhD program. A separate department for Interior Architecture offers BA and MA degrees. Master‘s Degree classes in Architecture and Art and in Fine Arts and Therapy round off the spectrum of courses.
